I think the new trilogy would be experiencing less backlash if there was no connection to the OT

People have some big complaints about the new trilogy, myself included. But a lot of complaints revolve around the handling of the older characters.Obviously the OT characters are a good way to market your new Star Wars Movies, but in hindsight, I'm not sure this was a good idea considering what we got. It's obvious they want to sell us on the new characters, and get rid of the older ones. But the way it was advertised and done seems disingenuous. If you want a good example on how to introduce new characters and still treat older characters with respect, look at Cobra Kai.In retrospect, I think the new films should've disregarded the OT characters all together. They probably wouldn't have made as much money, because you can't slap Harrison, Mark and Carrie on a poster and get people coming for nostalgic reasons in order to see what happened to the OT characters they loved. But, you also don't get as much backlash in terms of "That's not the way my favorite characters story should have ended"The prequels were unpopular at the time, but they didn't truly alter the fates of Obi Wan and Anakin. You already knew their fate, you were just watching how they got there.TLJ and TFA directly affect the fate of two very popular OT characters and disposes them (in what many fans would call) in a unheroic fashion. And nothing will change that. Whereas if the new saga just focused on the new characters, and the OT characters fates were just left to the viewers imagination, I think the fandom may be in a different place right now. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/2M7bWND
