Thinking about the overall story direction the Sequel Trilogy could have gone, it feels like Disney/Lucasfilm were afraid to do something different after the Prequel backlash.

The more I think about the sequel trilogy and the more I think about how the general concept is the same as the OT, the more I'm disappointed at how Lucasfilm could have done things different. It's unfortunate because these are some really talented young actors who I would have loved to see in a new era of Star Wars. The Prequel Trilogy was about the Jedi at their height, and then their subsequent fall. The Original Trilogy was about a galaxy without Jedi, and then their subsequent return(through Luke). The Sequel Trilogy is about...a galaxy without Jedi...and now their return is coming..again.This is the essential problem. We're supposed to take this as 9 episodes that somehow connect, however there is such a lack of purpose in the final part of the trilogy because they're not doing anything new. It makes me so upset to think about what we *could* have had for the plot and how it would have connected the 9 episodes perfectly. We could have had the Sequel Trilogy focus on Luke's new Jedi Academy, years after the events of Jedi. The plot could focus on Kylo being swayed, and threatening everything the new Jedi are trying to accomplish. We could have seen young Jedi trainees, Rey could have been one of them. Disney/Lucasfilm clearly has shown a talent for finding young actors, as I honestly feel this new crew has some of the best acting chops of the entire saga. They could have been utilized as Jedi trainees. It's just so disappointing to think about what *could* have been with the Sequel Trilogy.
