Why do ships seem so weak in Rebels?

One thing I've noticed watching Rebels is how weak the ships seem to be. Corvettes going from perfectly fine to in flames and falling after just a few hits from a TIE fighter. Frigates taken down after a two second barrage from a Destroyer.Showing casualties is a part of a story like this. Not every good guy makes it to the end. But when a single normal TIE fighter takes singlehandedly takes out a Corvette it makes me think the ships are made of paper. Even if the shield is out it should take more than a couple hits.
