This dude fights in the Clone Wars and helps Yoda escape the clone troopers. After seeing the Republic fall, he goes underground and joins up with Han Solo to make a living through the black market, because after being a commander against the Empire, there's no way he'd be permitted to earn an honest living. Then he helps a know-it-all desert kid escape from the Empire, rejoins the Rebel Alliance, and helps bring down Emperor Palpatine. Nobody really ever asks Chewie if he's cool with getting mixed up with the Rebels again. He could have been like, "no, one war was enough for me," but instead he enlists for a second tour without being asked. Then he's gotta live to see the Rebels' short lived victory and the rise of the First Order. Most would be ready to retire, but Chewie helps a second desert orphan escape from trouble and rejoins the fight against the First Order. He leads a covert operation to destroy a planet-sized laser gun and rescues desert orphan II and Finn.Sadly, he also witnesses Han Solo's murder. After seeing his best friend killed by said best friend's own son, you'd forgive Chewie if he were to back out. But no, he's barely had time to grieve, and he's driving that annoying desert orphan to go visit the first desert orphan he saved so that the two of them can commiserate about how tough life has been for them and ponder the wisdom of the force. Meanwhile, the three war veteran is there being patient and making friends with the local avian species. It's like, can the guy get some respect? He's been in three of the largest galactic conflicts playing a leading role in every major battle. He's helped destroy two Death Stars and a Death Planet. He's saved Yoda, Obi Wan, Luke, and Rey - basically ensuring the Jedi don't go extinct. He's seen countless friends die, and though he's been a part of many important victories, he's still on the losing team.Yet, does he give up? No! And has anyone ever had to convince him to keep going? No! And has anyone ever bothered to ask him how he does it? How he keeps going despite so many set backs? Does he even want to continue fighting? Does he have any advice or tactical wisdom to give? No, no, no! He's never asked anything and largely taken for granted. But still he keeps fighting and looking after people he's not even close with because it's the right thing to do.Props to my friend Ben for originally typing this up. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2lWh5N6
