Somewhat unpopular opinion: Luke's arc in TLJ is interesting and is executed well.

Honestly it's my favorite part of an alright movie. When we see luke at the start of a movie he is a broken man. He literally tells us that he came here to die, alone on this island. He is cynical, in exile, shamed by a split second thought that was created out of the fear of ben solo becoming his grandfather, being warped to the darkside, tempted with unimaginable power. He also carries the guilt for his students who he couldnt save.He also explicitly states that he is not going to take on the entire first order with a laser sword, which he ends up doing.Rey helps him see what a hero he was, and what he can be, a sign of hope, of failure (a central theme in the film) and redemption.I have seen many people complain about how luke should be totally good, but he has always struggled with the darkside, as we see in ROTJ.I definitely think it was an interesting game on the character, and its alot better then luke just agreeing to train rey. It gives him a satisfying and compelling arc, where in the end he embraces his hero status, and faces down the entire first order with his laser sword. His death in front of the twin sons was beautiful. Even if you hated the movie, the twin sons were great. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/2R978dX
