From the moment JJ decided to nostalgia bait us in TFA the series was set up for failure. TFA is actually fairly enjoyable as movie, but it set up the Empire vs Rebellion again which made no sense except for marketing. If they would have staged it as opposing ideologies fighting on equal ground that would have been fine, but them literally building a better Death Star was the laziest thing I've ever seen.Finn was never given anything meaningful after TFA, the most wasted character in the trilogy. A converted stormtrooper is such a cool character and could have forced interesting moral dilemmas but it was never utilized. Then the Rey problem, she just never had to learn anything. It started with force awakens and made worse by TLJ, just threw away established Jedi/Sith canon for no reason.TLJ had interesting parts, and was the only original story told in the new trilogy. It also characterized Luke so wrong from the original that Mark Hamill struggled with it. It spent too much time trying to destroy the idea of the Jedi. It also gave every main character besides Rey a meaningless waste of time plot to subvert our expectations.ROS was once again JJ proving he knew how to do nothing but reach into the nostalgia bait for writing a movie. The disaster of Palpatine put the final nail in the coffin for this series.Every movie flawed, when originality was used, they tried to destroy the legacy of the movies we actually did like. I feel bad for the actors because I honestly feel like they nailed the casting too. They just wasted talent on incoherent writing and trilogy that had no idea where it was going aside from the top of the box office. This trilogy would have been better without the classic characters, just write new characters instead of trying to kill off the old ones. I would have enjoyed this trilogy much more if Rey was struggling to teach herself the force without any guidance than if she just didn't need Luke. Basically the same story, but vastly different lore consequences.*Editted: Finn for Poe because of a mistype via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/333Oy0N
