[Rogue One Spoilers] As a Star Wars vehicular technophile...

Just got back from seeing Rogue One and holy moley, it was like a wet-dream. Everything I loved from the original trilogy is back and better than ever in most cases.Ever since my days of Rogue Squadron on the N-64, I can't help but be in love with the vehicles and crafts of Star Wars, and Rogue One filled my heart with absolute joy.Where can I start? I guess with Jedah, the introduction of the imperial Tank, and the tankers looking like... well, tankers! How badass the craft looked and felt as it tore through the terrace building, and the Tanker Troopers themselves, everything about that shot I loved. Then the AT-ST showed up! A true OG Imperial vehicle! Then the attack on the imperial lab? I almost fangasmed right there. Original X-wings swooping in, kicking ass and weaving between the rocky outcroppings with finesse (until being shot and crashing into them). Of course, the best part of that scene I'll save for...The final battle and the fleet battle. Oh my goodness.First of all, the ground battle. Sure, we didn't see much vehicular combat... until the cargo AT-ATs rocked up. Can I say I love this variant? Its not a combat, loaded for bear walker, its hollow in the centre for cargo, which I find to be fascinating. This variant just makes sense to me, its a heavy lifter, it has a giant cargo crate in the middle, and it sort of makes sense how they go down a little easier then Empire Strikes Back. Sure they're weaponised, but they'd be weaker as they're not front-line.Gotta say though, when one of them was literally ripped in half? Goodness me, loved it.Then the U-wing sweeping in, in a real Vietnam, Apocalypse Now fashion. The little hairy bloke with the side mounted machinegun just killed me, I loved it so much! It tears shit up, drops off its lads, then goes back to tearing shit up (until, well...)Finally. The moment that had me fidgeting hard. The fleet battle. Seeing a Rebel fleet duking it out with the Empire made me extremely giddy.First, the fighters. The X-wings making another come-back and tearing into the Imperial defenses made me so happy, but not as happy as the return of the original Red Leader and Gold Leader from A New Hope. Speaking of which...FUCKING Y-WINGS!!!! I don't care what anyone says, I have always and WILL ALWAYS love Y-wings. And for them to be doing something badass, wrecking shit as they should be with their bombs instead of being cannon fodder put me over the moon. Gold Squadron 4 lief. Then the Hammerhead Corvette. Holy fuck, I have nothing but intense love for that little thing. Literally ramming a star destroyer in the side, pushing its engines as far as they could go, and cleaving through a second star destroyer! Literally beating one mother fucker with another mother fucker! Those guys are goddamn heroes, and I love them so goddamn much. Like a knife through butter, the carnage... it literally had me going "No fucking way!". I was in absolute awe! Then the Death Star coming into orbit, and it aiming directly at Krennic was just plain awesome. Ol' Eagle Eye Moff Tarkin, sniping that fucker from orbit. Beautiful. And I guess to cap it all off was the Imperial Fleet coming in to mop up the remains of the Rebel fleet, or at least stopping those that couldn't escape in time. Poor Raddus, badass guy, but couldn't get out in time.Shout out to the Rebel transport ship that got smushed like a bug on a windscreen when the Star Destroyer came out of hyperspace. RIP.And finally, after all that, the lead into A New Hope. I thought it was a year or so before it, but I'm so happy that its literally hours, if not minutes before. I think they handled that exceptionally well, how it was all down to the wire.Fantastic, just fantastic. Now I desperately want a new Star Wars flight sim. Let me take control of a Y-wing again, let me shoot down TIEs in an X-wing. Hell, even a non-grindy equivalent to War Thunder would be beautiful.Anyway, thanks for reading my rant. This movie had me wetting myself with excitement of all my favourite Star Wars crafts coming back and better than ever. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2hVj7fC
