TL;DR Luke, Leia and Han all had amazing chemistry as characters and actors. This is lacking in the sequel movies, which makes it much harder to care.OriginalsThere are obviously so many reasons why the OG trilogy are such great movies - the special effects, the visuals, the perfect pacing (especially in Empire), the well written characters, intriguing story, etc. However I think one of the main reasons why the original Star Wars are just so fun and lovable is the chemistry between Luke, Han, and Leia. Their friendship grows so naturally and organically in A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back that by the time ROTJ came out the audience genuinely believes that these three rebels were life long BFFs who would take a bullet for each other. Not only did they all have great banter off each other as well as some heart felt moments, the script always delivered these scenes at the exact right time so that it was always believable.SequelsIf you compare this to the subsequent Star Wars films, this element is missing. Disney clearly tried to set up Rey, Fin, and Po as sort of the new Luke, Han, and Leia, and in my opinion it just didn't work at all. Apart from the fact that they split up the band too early, the chemistry between these characters always was a little off. It was like when you meet a friend of a friend at a party and you want to become closer with them but you just don't really vibe that well or have much to talk about...that's sort of how I felt the main sequel characters felt about each other. All of their "friendship" moments were unearned, and as a result felt fake and forced. Consequently, these movies had no heart compared to the originals. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/3hHIsq2
