My sons middle name is Anakin

I recently read an article about people giving their kids ridiculous names. Well I had most of the creative control when it came to naming my only son, (his mother already had two children from her marriage). So I named him Daniel. After myself and the grandfather for who I myself was named. My ex, who’s name is Amy, asked me to pick a middle name that started with A. She gave some some pretty awful names to choose from. The best of her suggestions being Alexander. The others were names like Anders and Axton etc etc. Well I knew I had to give her the A name, but I wanted my son to have a meaningful and unique name that I could be proud to call him by. I have been obsessed with Star Wars my entire life. I even played episodes 1-7 and Rogue One on the TV during bedtime literally every single night that she was pregnant. No joke. Nine months of falling asleep to a Star Wars movie because I thought that maybe if he heard the music to the opening crawl enough times in the womb he might recognize it as a toddler and it would be a comforting sound to him. I don’t know if it worked but at early as 4-5 months old. Whenever I start a Star Wars movie he does stop whatever he’s doing and stares at the TV as though he’s actually watching it.( and I think he is because he doesn’t care about anything else that’s ever playing on the tv) So anyways, Darth Vader has always been my absolute favorite fictional character of all times and as I say racking my brain trying to come up with an awesome A name it hit me.. I looked up at my then girlfriend and said “hey what about Anakin”? Fully thinking she’d recognize the name from 6 months of Star Wars at night and want to fight me on it. Well she had not payed close enough attention apparently because she went right along with it. Said it was an amazing name and asked me how I came up with it. My answer was “I dunno I just did”. So fast forward a few months and we’re in the hospital a few hours from getting to take our son home for the first time. And a nurse comes to let us know his birth certificate is complete and just needs our signatures for it to be official. So we sign. It’s official. And the nurse leaves the room. First words out of my mouth when she shuts the door behind her leaving us alone is “So you really wanna know how I came up with the name Anakin?” And I proceed to tell her who it was. Surprisingly she was only a little mad about the fast one I pulled on her. And I mean we signed the document. It was already official. I had her where I wanted her. And I’m glad to say that she quickly warmed up to the name and even just calls him by Anakin like I do. Now I think my son has the coolest name in the world. My ex even agrees. Her parents, and my mother were and are extremely upset about it. But other friends and any random people who learn his name, wether they know where it comes from or not all seem to thinks it’s really cool too. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/2C1mtXI
