Maybe the best news about JJ doing IX is we might get to see the Knights of Ren.

After TFA came out, someone asked JJ that if he were ever to do another Star Wars, what story would he want to tell. JJ said he'd want to make an anthology about the Knights of Ren.While that's obviously not what we are going to get as it's a saga movie, I think he is more likely than others to include the KOR in the movie now - assuming they aren't in 8, which we've seen nothing of in the marketing.
