8 yo daughter was bullied and called a Mary Sue while dressed as Rey

To any of you teaching your kids that girls can't be heroes too or calling Rey a Mary Sue, your kids can hear you. Your words effect those around you. I'm sure my kid isn't the only one that has cried because of being bullied and told she couldn't play because of who she wanted to dress up as. She came home from a birthday party today crying. I sure wonder where those kids picked the Rey hate up from. I promise you they didn't come up with that term on their own. I know many of you are not the problem, but much of the sub acts this way. Girls finally have a hero, and you can't comprehend a woman doing things a man can. You've all had Luke, Anakin, Han, and many other film heroes growing up. They all do great things. We don't call them names or derogatory terms. If you have kids and you call Rey, Jyn, or any female a Mary Sue then you need to get over it and do a better job of keeping your mouth shut. Your kids hear you. Even if you don't have kids. Get over it. I thought it was annoying before... but hearing that kids are picking it up from their parents or the internet or whatever and bullying girls that like the character or just want to dress up as someone that isn't the token girlfriend is horrendous. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2fub9Yt
