I was disappointed with them when they came out but I so wanted to understand them because I’m a huge Prequel fan and would get so upset when haters refused to try and understand the good things. Then I came here and saw the same things happening — people were jumping on the bandwagon to overly hate stuff about the ST instead of focusing on the good. And I have my issues with the ST but I don’t dwell on it, I look at what I enjoy.I’m not talking about constructive criticism but things like “these movies suck, they’re objectively bad and everyone should hate them and anyone who likes them is dumb” this is not constructive, this is someone who clearly just wants to hate and wants validation for their opinion.I’m bringing this up simply because I constantly see everyone having a go at Rey for calling herself a skywalker, and I think everyone is overreacting about this one part.Rey choosing to be a skywalker over a Palpatine is her choosing the light over dark. It’s anakin reclaiming the name anakin instead of Vader. It’s like in titanic when Rose calls herself Dawson after Jack Dawson — she didn’t marry him but she wanted to keep him alive in some way. This is Rey’s way of keeping the skywalker name alive, honoring what anakin and Luke achieved in their respective trilogies. And even honoring the light in kyloIt is also symbolic of rey realizing she “chooses who to become” the same way Luke chose the light in ROTJ when the emperor tells him to give into his anger. It’s anakin choosing to come back to the light. Rey spent her life looking into the past, wanting to find out where she came from. Now in the end she realizes that she should instead look to the future and what she will become, not who she was. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/7qgncN1
