Never mind the superlaser, how did the empire manage to get the Death Star into hyperspace?

The amount of force the hyperdrive would have to generate to get the Death Star to the speed of light, let alone past the speed of light would be astronomical (well, technically it would be infinite but we’re going to pretend that F = ma applies equally up to and past the speed of light). Let’s say a hyperdrive has to be at least 1/50th of the mass of the ship (this is based on TIE defenders), that means the hyperdrive for the Death Star (which is ~ 6.3 x 1021 kgs) would weigh ~ 3.15 x 1021 kgs (if you weighed it on a scale on earth that would be about 6.93 x 1021 lbs, or 1.75 x 1016 blue whales). Ok, let’s just say that the hyperdrive takes up 1/100th of the mass of a ship. That’s uh... 1.59 x 1021 kgs. Now, I wanted to see exactly how much force this thing needs to generate to get the hyperdrive, let alone the Death Star to light speed but I’m too lazy and under qualified for this math, so your going to have to be content with my assessment that it’d take a lot of force to move it. So, where would the empire get the fuel for this? And where the hell did they put this monster of a hyperdrive?TL;DR the hyperdrive is really big, and it makes almost no sense via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/36X2tUl
