If Anakin would have been Mace Windu’s Padawan he probably wouldn’t have succumbed to the dark side.

Mace Windu was much more qualified than anybody to take on Anakin as his Padawan. From the beginning the consul saw a dark presence in Anakin and should have had the foresight to know Mace was the only one out of all of them to master dark side techniques without succumbing to the dark side therefore knows the most about resisting it. He would have had the ability to teach Anakin how to control his emotions much better than Obi and honestly would have probably had the ability to sniff out Palpatine trying to influence Anakin way sooner.
