Quick disclaimer: Writing out my thoughts isn't my best skill and neither is English but I think it makes sense.So ANH starts with the scroll texts which informs you that the rebels have gotten their first victory and that Leia is racing to bring the stolen plans to the rebellion. Which is rather straightforward and eventually you see Leia being captured. There we get our first glimps of Darth Vader who just kills someone without touching him. But thats not where the real mystery begins, thats when the scene changes towards Tatooine. Where we meet Luke who lives a rather normal life on a desert planet. Until his uncle buys the droid with the plans who wants to go to Ben Kenobi.Luke gets to him and Kenobi learns Luke about the Force and his father. Then he is forced to leave the planet after his uncle and aunt get killed and then you get to maybe one of my favorite scenes: The Cantina Scene. That just shows how big the universe must be if there are so many different people and all with an own story as you can read in “From a certain point of view”. That was I think the moment I loved star wars already.And then there is not much world building in the following scenes but you keep the mysteriousness that Luke has about the Force, the Princess and the empire. Then we see the Death Star blowing up a full planet and you wonder how you can stop such power. And then we all know that Luke blows up the Death Star moments before it can destroy the full rebel base.Then TESB starts on a complete new planet where the rebels are currently hidden. But the empire finds them and after an amazing battle Luke flees to Dagobah while the others go to Cloud City. Both of these locations are really interesting. The swamp on Dagobah where Luke has to find an old jedi master. After he finds Yoda he leaves early to save his friends on Cloud City and we have the amazing ending with Darth Vader revealing who he is.ROTJ lacks with new worlds as it starts with Luke back on Tatooine to save Han Solo. Sadly he gets captured and we venture further into the desert. Where we have the epic standoff after which Luke gets to Dagobah. So nothing new yet while the story also progresses as expected. Then they learn that there is a new Death Star so they plan to bring it down. They go to Endor so we get atleast a new planet and they disable the shield generator and they bring down the Death Star and the empire. So the originals didn't have too much world building but since everything was new it didn't matter too much especially since the mystery and story were excellent.Then we got the prequels where we were introduced to a lot of new worlds. We start out with Naboo and Otoh Gunga (the underwater world). Then we go back to a familiar world in Tatooine but this time we meet Anakin. Who then learns about the vastness of the universe and determinant says that he wants to visit all planets. Then we go to Coruscant where the world open up like the Cantina scene. Especially with the senate room and all the different races again. From there we can see the clone wars starting after a visit to the amazing planet of Kamino. And in the clone wars series we get introduced to so many new planets as well but if we just consider the movies we still see a fair share of new planets. Like Geonosis, Kashyyyk, Utapau and Mustafar.So the prequels have amazing world building in my opinion and the story is still great as well. And the stand alone films also worked wonders for world and story building. I still think that those two were so amazing and are definitely among my favorites, although they have the advantage of me seeing them in the cinemaBut lets focus on the sequels now. TFA starts on a desert planet which luckily isn't tatooine but Jakku. With a very similar setup to ANH. Which is fine by me but I would have loved a new setting which we do get for our new “cantina scene”. Takodana and Maz Cantina are really great since they resembled what I like what star wars but its new enough to make it different. Then just like ANW we spend most of our time on the giant base of the enemy. This time it is a snowy planet giving it a new feeling as well so that helped but it missed the rebel base feeling that ANW had. In ANW I had the feeling that the rebellion could stand a fight as they stolen the database and made a successful attack and have a planetary base. While in TFA they seem extremely tiny and it is the work of just the protagonists that brings down the empire.This theme continues in TLJ where after the first attack there are only a few ships left and at the end of the film the full rebellion fits in the falcon. So most of the film happens on these ships meaning that the movie universe is extremely tiny. But just like TESB we have our heroes split up across the universe. Rey goes to Ahch-To which is a really cool planet with the old Jedi temple and even Canto Bight is a really interesting planet with the dynamic of them selling to both sides. And then we get one final planet in Crait. Where the final “battle” happens. But where I dont have the same feeling like I did during the battle of Hoth. It feels like they are bound to lose since the opponents are so much better. But also that there is not a whole big universe out there.And so if you compare the sequels to the originals there isnt that much difference in structure. But the originals were new so every new planet was amazing and the story was superb. TFA had a good story but was really lacking in new worlds. TLJ had amazing new worlds but nothing interesting happened on them while we also had the full rebellion on one ship fleeing. And the prequels really brought out the complete universe for me. Especially with the addition of the Clone Wars series which had a new planet almost every episode. And maybe the sequels could be helped with such a series as well but since the universe is so tiny I dont know what it would be about.
