Ive seen a lot of articles popping up about fan theories for ep 9 and how they can bring Han Solo back, and they all involve time travel. Time travel can be a great device in movies. I enjoy the way it is used in Star Trek; First Contact and Back to the Future. But those movies use science fiction as the motivation for the plot (time travel caused a problem, we will use more time travel to fix it.) Star Wars at its core has never been about the science fiction, at its core Star Wars is modern American mythology. It's about the heroes journey in the same vein as the Iliad and King Arthur. It's about Anakin, Luke and the saga of the Skywalkers. The science fiction is the background.Time travel introduced to Star Wars is just too big of a device that overpowers a storyline about the "will of the force." We're supposed to believe things happen for a purpose so there should not be a do-over button. For that reason I do not like the way it was used in Rebels either, although It seems like there were strict circumstances surrounding it.I also cannot think of a storyline in the old canon that used time travel. I could be wrong, but I've read most of it. So it would seem when Lucasfilm was firmly under George Lucas' control they had a mandate to not use time travel. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/2mmWmSu
