In the original trilogy, Han's arc is ultimately pretty happy-seeming. He goes from selfish scoundrel on the run from gangsters to a true hero who finds love and purpose, saves the galaxy and gets the girl. But as new films have expanded on his arc and life story, that picture becomes a lot darker and more depressing.Obviously, Solo isn't out yet and there's a lot we don't know. But based on the trailers and photos we can see that the Falcon when Han first encountered it is this gleaming, almost luxurious ship with nice upholstery and whatnot, almost like a space yacht. We know that Han himself sounds ambitious ("I'm gonna be the best pilot in the galaxy") and seems to be connecting with a new crew including Lando, as well as a potential mentor in Woody Harrelson and a possible love interest in Emilie Clarke.Yet within a few years, Han will have won the Falcon...and let it devolve into the run-down looking ship we see in ANH. The upholstery is torn out, the nice panelling is wrecked. It looks like a mess. Sure, it flies fast and has sweet guns, but this is where the dude lives and by that perspective its sort of a shithole. He's like a guy who lucked into a really sweet apartment, but never decorates or gets real furniture but instead just sleeps on a nasty mattress on the floor. (You just know if Lando had kept the Falcon it'd be nice as hell and probably have leather couches and shit)His possible mentor and that potential love interest? Out of the picture, likely because he either had a major falling out with them, or because they died. Even he and Lando are on somewhat shaky terms by ESB. And instead of being this ambitious guy with big dreams, he's spending his time running drugs to try and pay back a loan shark. Han's life at the start of ANH basically sucks.Of course, throughout the original trilogy he turns things around. He meets a new girl and falls in love. He makes new friends, reconnects and reconciles with Lando. He joins a cause larger than himself and becomes a famous hero and celebrated soldier. He saves the day, settles down and gets married...And then it all falls apart again. He and his wife have a kid who turns into the Star Wars version of a school shooter. They basically get divorced. His best friend drops off the map and they never see each other again. He goes back to the only thing he knows, being basically a nomadic 2 bit criminal looking to make a quick buck. Eventually, he even loses the Falcon, his only true home. Chewie is literally the only remaining remnant of his old life.Over the course of TFA, he starts to reclaim his old self. He finds the Falcon again. He reconnects with Leia. He leaves behind smuggling to be a rebel and fight against evil again. And he makes the noble choice to try to redeem his son at enormous personal risk....And then his own son stabs him through the heart and pushes him into a pit, then the planet he is on literally explodes and his body is utterly disintegrated. And because he's not a jedi or anything, that's the end of Han Solo. No force ghost. No body. Just ash in space.TL;DR When you actually look at the entire arc of Han's life, it is dark as fuck. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2EsSXfz
