New Republic in episode 8

In the Force Awakens, the Republic is the most glossed over thing in the entire movie, which is saying a lot. In The Last Jedi, the Republic needs to play a lot bigger role, even if it comes later in the film.As far as the Sequel Trilogy's story is going, it seems as though the resistance and First Order war is essentially a recreation of the rebellion vs empire of the OT, except this time the good guys are actually a much smaller force than last time.I also think the destruction of Hosnian Prime was used as a way to recreate the Galactic Civil War, because without the Republic, all you have left is the Resistance. In my opinion it's massively disappointing on how Lucasfilms is shamelessly being lazy in their story telling. If the Sequel Trilogy wants to create a clearly defined original story, then the Republic has to still exist in some capacity to help level the playing field. Here's my scenario:On D'Qar, the Resistance hastily evacuates all members and important assets before the FO can get there. Although they have almost succeeded, the FO fleet gets there at the last moment, starting a fleet battle. Although the Resistance takes heavy casualties, they punch a gap in the blockade, allowing the remaining vessels to escape to either Crait or the Casino planet. At this point in the movie, it is assumed that the Republic has been wiped out. However, knowing they can not win the war yet, the Republic is relying on the Resistance to hold the FO back until the Republic can assemble a modern fleet capable of destroying the FO's. In order to do so, they utilize the shipyards such as Kuat and Sluis Van for example. The second act of the film will mostly be about Rey and Luke's training sequence, meaning there will be no battle scene. The third and final act will most likely take place on either Crait or the casino planet, or perhaps both. But for now let's focus on the battle of Crait. In it, the Resistance is still fighting alone, and even if Rey and Luke come to assist, they stand no chance against the FO invasion force. After most of the speeders and soldiers have been killed, it seems like the FO has finally succeeded in wiping out their final obstacle to Galactic domination. Back at the bridge of the Finalizer, a crew member alerts General Hux of dozens of massive objects emerging from hyperspace. The next scene, a massive Republic fleet emerges, consisting of upgraded ships based off of earlier designs, such as the Venator, or even Old Republic designs such as the Hammerhead cruiser(not corvette), Valor, Interdictor, etc. Using the element of surprise, the Republic vessels quickly knock out many turbo lasers of the FO's fleet, crippling the attack in an instant. Soon after, the FO fleet releases its Tie Fighter complement to turn the tide of the battle. For a moment it seems like the FO has gained the upper hand, until the Republic vessels release their T-85 X-Wings. Although the Ties manage to take a few down, they stand no chance against the Republic fighters. After finishing off the last remaining fighters, the Republic fleet concentrates fire on the Star Destroyers. To avoid further losses to the fleet, Hux retrieves his ground forces and retreats back to FO territory. Shortly afterwards, Republic transports are deployed, retrieving what little remains of the resistance to the fleet. This would mean that for the first time in a Star Wars movie, the good guys are actually even with the antagonists, meaning we would be able to see a great climax battle in episode 9. Anyways, I doubt that's how it'll play out, I was just voicing how I would like to see it play out. I have very little hope that Rian Johnson will include the Republic in episode 8, instead favoring an underdog conflict as seen in the OT. Tell me what you guys think. Do you want to see the Republic or just wish to see the Resistance as the only good faction?Edit: I forgot that people will ask how the Republic can build a fleet. Since the movie will likely take place over the course of a few weeks, the Republic will have time to assemble a fleet using the shipyards such as Kuat and Sluis Van. Just forgot to add this. I also think that Finn and Rose infiltrating the FO will play a big part in the fleet battle, as it's possible they're on a Star Destroyer when the battle commences. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2uXwnXg
