This has bugged me for a long time. In a galaxy where ships can fly at the speed of light, it seems weird to me that the empire would deploy something as clunky and inefficient as walkers. Hell, we see their biggest weakness exploited on Hoth and Endor – their legs! Why wouldn't it make more sense to have a vehicle that uses hover technology? Then they would actually be all-terrain.
