From what I understand from what I've read, and I may be wrong about this, the canon explanation to why we ended up getting Hayden Christensen is that Vader reverts back to Anakin and Hayden is Anakin. But not everybody accepts that explanation.Think of residual self image from the Matrix, with becoming a force ghost something akin to plugging into the Matrix. In the 23 or so between RotS and RotJ Anakin probably came to see the burned, scared, pale face as Darth Vader. He doesn't even refer to himself as Anakin until episode 6, and even then it's only around Luke probably as a way to try and turn him. So when Vader turns on the Emperor and reverts back to Anakin he mentally sees himself as the younger version of himself before he turned to the dark side. So rather it was consciously or sub-consciously, I'd say the latter, when he died and "plugged into" the Force he turned himself into Hayden Anakin. Now I know some people say "why didn't Obi-Wan or Yoda go to a younger version of themselves?" And RSI can still be used here. Neither Obi-Wan or Yoda ever turned to the dark side so the older OT versions of them is how they see themselves with they die and "plug in."Sorry about the longish post and if it's not allowed here, just got thinking about this last night and thought I'd share it and see what others thought. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2sT0DSr
