After my second viewing last night I went home and watched ANH and it genuinely felt like one continuous story. The fact that they're able to so accurately tie into a 40 year old film is arguably their greatest achievement with R1.The second biggest take away for me was how well it blended the prequels to the OT: Bail Organa, Saw Gerrerra, Vader's castle on Mustafar, the re-purposed rover from the Clone Wars. Subtle enough to not stand out, but just enough to feel connected. This was the link I needed between trilogies.
