Why Luke Skywalker is my favorite character.

Given the title, the following statement is pretty obvious, but here it is:Luke Skywalker is my favorite character in all of Star Wars. He's above Leia, Han, Lando, Chewie, and even Artoo Detoo and See Threepio. For starters, at the start of the trilogy, Luke Skywalker is just a normal human being - save for the fact that he has the Force, but he doesn't know about it yet. He isn't the chosen one, he wasn't born to a mother without a father, he's just a 19 year old dude who lives on a farm with his aunt and uncle in the middle of nowhere. Then, everything changes and Luke is thrown into a larger world. He's used to a normal life, spending hours doing work for his uncle, but Ben Kenobi introduces him to the universe. He meets creatures from a million worlds and experiences new things for the first time, and this is what I love about Luke.He becomes a Jedi because of his father. He doesn't have to fulfill a prophecy, or have the weight of the world upon his shoulders, but because he wants to make his father proud.Sure, he's whiny, but he has a good heart. He sees the good in people even when they can't see it themselves. He keeps going when all the odds are against him and when he himself wants to give up, but he doesn't. He braves his fears and surpasses those who doubted him - even Yoda, his own Jedi Master.Luke then finds out that Vader is his father. He loses his hand, but he decides to sacrifice himself instead of turning to the dark side and becoming a pawn like Vader. Then, when everyone else has lost faith in his father, Luke still sees the good. He redeems his father and almost gives up his own life because he isn't willing to become apart of the dark side.In conclusion, Luke is a hero. People can call him whiny, but he has an amazing development and matures throughout the trilogy, finally becoming a Jedi like his father before him. There's a lot of depth to his character and he'll always be my favorite character in the franchise.Do you guys have any thoughts on Luke? via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2fU1CKR

We don't have to connect every single piece of Star Wars media other than they happen in the Star Wars universe. They can be unrelated.

These "theories" connecting RO to the ST or Snoke to Jabba the Hutt are beginning to get on my nervesStar Wars is a vast universe and one of the reasons behind Rogue One and the spin off movies is to tell the different stories and expand our view of Star Wars. There are so many different stories that can be told and be independent of each other but still strengthen Star Wars.•Jyn and Luke don't have to be Rey's parents. •Lando is not Finns dad. •Snoke can be his own character •Rogue One crew isn't the knights of renTLDR: it's a big universe, not every movie or book has to be connected in some way other than they are in the universe of Star Wars. And that's okay via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2gWgRVx

[General Discussion] I just finished rewatching the Prequels and I have to say...

I've never been this emotional watching Episode III.So I've been going through what I suppose will be a new anual tradition of watching all the films in order before each new movie released. I went through a cycle of loving the prequels as a kid, realizing the flaws and basically ignoring them as a teenager then in the last few years I've really learned to love them again. The Star Wars Oxygen episodes of the Rebel Force Radio podcast have helped me appreciate the prequels a LOT more, and watching them this time I just had a blast. Sure there are effects that don't hold up (some not well AT ALL), but let's be honest, not every effect from the original trilogy is invisible today. I think there is a serious level of depth to these movies that gets overlooked do to all the complaints about the CGI and stiff performances. George Lucas really deserves a lot more credit for his work here. I honestly feel bad that he got so much hate for the prequels. So anyways TL;DR, I rewatched the prequels and gained a new appreciation for them, and may have teared up during the last 30 minutes or so of Episode III. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2gIfk1b

Mads Mikkelsen is a good fit for a Star Wars movie because his name already sounds like a Star Wars character

Leia between Episodes III and IV

Who else is dying for more details on Leia's story before A New Hope? Personally, I'd love to see a book (or movie?!?!) expanding on her role as a very young Imperial senator (kind of a Padme-esque character) who evolves into a true Rebel as the Empire's corruption is revealed to her. I'd love to see her father Bail reveal the Rebel Alliance to her. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2gHKXrr

Where can I listen to the version of the Imperial March from the end of the most recent "Breath" trailer?

I swear there's something different about it... It just sounds so much more raw than the usual version. I really enjoy it, but can't keep watching the trailer just to hear a couple seconds of it. Is there anywhere we can listen to an extended version? Ive tried searching, but I don't think I'm using the right keywords. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2ghuZHv

Mass Mikkelsen is about to have a good year

Ol' Mads being in both a SW and MCU film is a pretty legit accomplishment. Kind of reminds me of Domhnall Gleeson being in almost every movie last year. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2fJoBov

The new actors for Han, Lando and Chewie are all about 95% of the height of their counterparts

Alden Ehrenreich is 5'8" [172.72cm], while Harrison Ford was 6'0.043" [182.99cm] at his peak height. (94.4%) Donald Glover is 5'8.53" [174.07cm], while Billy Dee Williams was 5'10.65" [179.45cm] at his peak height. (97.0%) Joonas Suatamo is 6'10.25" [208.89cm], while Peter Mayhew was 7'2" [218.44cm] at his peak height. (95.6%) via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2ggSz7g

Any guesses on Episode VIII title?

Assuming that the Episode VIII title will be revealed before Rogue One, what are your guesses on its title? via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2gtSr28

You get to add one reference to the prequels in Episode VIII. What do you add and how do you do it tastefully?

Where can I find the best map(s) of the Disney Star Wars Galaxy?

I just watched the Clone Wars arc featuring Saw, after having finished reading Catalyst yesterday. I really want a better understanding of the rims and the general "geography" of the systems presented, and doing my best to 'forget' all the maps from the NJO books. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2fNjEP1

What are the odds that there were SOME survivors of Kylo Ren's attack on Luke's Jedi Academy?

TFA makes it pretty clear that Luke is the last Jedi. However, Snoke's big fear is that "the new Jedi" will rise if Skywalker returns. So we could take this two ways:Luke is truly the last Jedi, but he can start training people again if he returns.Luke is the last OFFICIAL Jedi, but he still has some former students out there who he could recruit again and finish their training if he returns.Which do you think is the case, and which would you prefer? I'd prefer the 2nd option, but I think the 1st is more likely. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2fMY5hx
