I think Favreau should have taken more influence from Legends Boba Fett's characterization when writing The Book of Boba Fett.
Favreau obviously wanted to make Boba Fett more noble than he was in the OT but knew the fans wouldn't accept Boba Fett as a goody two-shoes, so he tried to make him a crime lord with a moral code, similar to Vito Corleone from The Godfather.But in my opinion, he took it too far and basically made Boba too soft. He ended up writing him as a naïve altruist whose criminal empire felt more like a charity. While Legends managed to balance out Boba's code of honor (although tbh, Boba took his Mandalorian heritage more seriously in Legends) with his ruthlessness.There are two great examples of his characterization in Legends:During the time Princess Leia was enslaved to Jabba the Hutt, Jabba sent her to Boba's quarters to pleasure him one night. Leia offered large amount of money to help her and her friends escape but Boba refused as working with the Rebellion would compromise his connections to the Empire. However, Boba refused to have sex with Leia as he felt it would be unethical to take advantage of her situation. But he also knew better than to insult Jabba by sending her back to him. So he let her sleep in his bed for the night while he slept on the floor.After discovering that his father Jango left inheritance to Connor Freeman, the son of a clone deserter, and that there was a bounty on Connor, Boba collected him and brought him to the crime lord Tayand, who placed the bounty on him. But to Connor's surprise, Boba offered to pay him what Connor owed. Tayand refused and Connor humorously offered 3 credits to anyone who kills Tayand. Boba accepted and subsequently killed Tayand and all his thugs and collected the 3 credit bounty. He then freed Connor, who wonders why he helped him. It's not made clear if Boba helped him simply to honor his father's legacy or if it's because he saw Connor as the closest thing he had to a brother. Boba's motive is left to interpretation.There are more examples of Boba's nobility and redemption in Legends, but the point is that I think Favreau didn't fully understand how to write a character like Boba Fett. Luke almost won his lightsaber duel against Darth Vader. He nearly cut Vader in half vertically, but only managed to injure his shoulder and when Vader was in pain, he let his guard down and Luke didn't finish him off.
