Prequel era Palpatine is the best movie villain ever. Let me explain

So, Palpatine was an absolute mastermind. He wasn't just a basic movie villain, who comes out of nowhere, announces his plan of destroying/conquering something and then failis miserably to execute it. He was right there, hiding in the plain sight, all the time. He wasn't just controlling a huge army/a single political structure. He was controlling the entire galaxy, and his plan was working so well, that he didn't need to intervene a single time in prequel trilogy, and only needed to intervene once in TCW to kick Dart Maul's ass. He was basically the devil himself. A Messiah was given to an ancient religion, who were so arrogant and blind that they literally handed him to Palpatine. Palpatine was always there for a little boy, who just broke free from slavery, and felt like not a single soul in The Republic cared about him, for a padawan who was going through some of the toughest times in his life, for a Jedi Knight, who was rejected and humiliated by the Jedi council, for a husband who wanted to protect his wife. But he wasn't willing to help, no. He was manipulating Anakin so well, that even the Jedi did not fully realise what was going on, untill it was too late. He dragged the chosen one straight to the flames of hell, where he choked his wife and fought his former brother, then appeared there like an angel of death. The next thing we see is a monster, who was once a slave, and is a slave once again, with a metallic skull where his face once was. Palpatine from prequels simply doesn't have a proper match. Whom could you possibly compare him with? The Devil? Of course there's so much more to it, like the entire clone wars plot, where he managed to disable Jedi's vision completely by covering the whole galaxy with a fog of war, and when the time came, it was all over for most of the Jedi in a matter of seconds. But talking about all of that would make this post way too long.
