I just re-watched AOTC (I know, I know). When Obi and Anakin are reporting for their security detail for Padme, Anakin is acting nervous ("I haven't seen you this nervous since we fell into that nest of gundarks!"). Anakin then basically admits that he's obsessed with Padme.Padme hardly acknowledges Anakin other than a comment on how much he's grown. When she leaves, Anakin complains to Obi that he's "thought about her every day for ten years and she barely noticed" him.She right away, we see that it's Anakin who likes Padme, and she is at best uninterested.Padme continues to act hesitantly towards him throughout the film, even pulling away and saying "I shouldn't have done that" after they kiss.Frankly, her admission of love for him towards the end of the film came out of left field and doesn't make any sense. It was also under duress-- they were about to be executed. There was certainly no romantic involvement between the two in TPM other than a comment from little Anakin asking if she was an angel. At worst, Padme didn't set firm boundaries when the infatuated Anakin made advances, but he was 19 at this point. Padme was not much older (24). I think people miss the fact that Padme was a child-queen when the Trade Federation invaded.Anyway, I was just reminded by some "grooming" comments I'd read on this sub after re-watching the film and was surprised at how off base they were. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/3z6tNwL
