My Thoughts on Return of the Jedi

Call this simplistic or whatever you will. For all the people try to apply the idealogy surrounding "attachments" and whatnot to the Original Trilogy I don't see it there at all.The way I read the final fight scene in Return of the Jedi is this: both the Jedi Order (represented by Force Ghost Obi Wan and Yoda) and Palpatine wanted Luke to kill his father. It was the same intent, just for different reasons.Obi Wan believed Vader's death was necessary to save the Galaxy and Luke was the only one who could do it and Palpy wanted him to kill his father to become his new apprentice in a sort of sadistic game.It wasn't so much a conflict between "compassion" and "attachment" as some people like to say, it was more the fact that Luke chose to do what he felt was right in spite of both of them. He eventually stuck it to both the Jedi and the Emperor by refusing to kill his father, like they both ultimately wanted. The Jedi wanted it for a "good" reason, the Emperor for a bad reason.Even if doing that cost him everything and there was no hope of success. Which ultimately his father reciprocated. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/3gnVNop
