C-3PO should not have had his memory restored from a backup, but by listening to R2 retell the saga

Having R2 magically have a backup of C-3PO’s memory was cheap, and IMO un-did any emotional impact wiping his memory had. It would have been super cool if C-3PO and R2’s last scene was was the two of them talking, and their conversation going something like:“What do you mean erased?”Beep boop“No, I don’t want to hear a story!”Boop beep beep“Seventy-seven years ago??”boop boop“A human pod-racer? Well that’s just impossible!”Beep beep“And Jedi?! R2-D2, if you’re going to make up a story to impress me, at least make it believable”————...or something like that.
