Anyone else getting jittery that Disney is mismarketing TROS as they did Solo?Just from sampling the kids around me, no one knows this film is about to come out. Parents aren’t talking about it. Kids don’t know or don’t care. I’m not seeing any media. Maybe a few Instagram ads but that’s it. My kid likes the trailer but only slightly more than meh. (He’s way more excited for an animated BONE film and I’m getting a paternity test). And not one kid at his school dressed as a Star Wars character for Halloween. Plenty of us fat dads dressed as lowly Jedi giving each other the nod of appreciation. We’re wrapping a new trilogy, kids should be fever pitch about Star Wars right now. But they’re not. Why?Is it really enough to drop a trailer and then a million tv ads the 2 weeks before it comes out?The Mandalorian and Fallen Jedi will be good marketing for TROS but neither have that much reach. Disney+ is only available in the US and will have maybe 5 million subs in the first month. Fallen Jedi will mostly be people who are already going to see the film.I know TROS is breaking advanced ticket sales and that’s awesome. I’ll be seeing it several times over the holidays and I’m stoked as hell to see the conclusion of this trilogy (and more than curious to see if Abrams can answer all the questions he posed in TFA).So I guess my questions are these: does Disney still need to learn how to market Star Wars? And/or is Disney up for a rude awakening 2.0?Note: I’m strictly not talking about the content of this trilogy. Just the marketing. Please don’t flame the thread with “JJ / KK / RJ / Disney killed my childhood” comments. Yes I know you feel that way. I feel your pain, but different thread, guy.
