Controversial Opinion: I like the sequel trilogy and spinoffs... a lot

I’m older enough to have seen Revenge of the Sith when it came out at the cinema. Not old enough to have seen episodes 1 or 2 at the theatre unfortunately but I did see 3. I enjoyed it, quite a bit.Upon growing older and seeing all the Star Wars films released by Lucas I came to the conclusion that they were all really fun movies. Episode 2 Attack of the clones was by far the worst, but was slightly elevated by my obsession with the clone wars series.Cut to the force awakens. I loved it. Like genuinely really enjoyed it. Really really enjoyed it. Han was handled really well. Kylo is such an interesting villain. The visuals are stunning and while I understand and appreciate the "another Death Star" rehash complaint it honestly never crossed my mind while viewing the movie, nor do I personally consider it a complaint. The Last Jedi was nerve racking. Like my heart was pounding in that film. So many twists and turns. Again I really like this movie. Luke in my opinion is handled so well. Especially considering I found it really relatable, to see someone struggle with anger and failure, someone who in the eyes of everyone else shouldn’t. I do not agree with the complaint he was handled badly. Luke was always impatient, angry, emotionally and as a mentor he acted very differently to obi wan. Canto Bight is awful. It’s just like the pod racing or factory scene, the ewok village and so on. So I guess that makes it great? Like that’s Star Wars. It was the most prequel era thing in there, very goofy and child friendly. I don’t enjoy it or any of the other sequences in previous films I mention but I’m not the only type of Star Wars fan.The rise of Skywalker look great. I love sidious in all his appearances is. I love Lando. I love the idea of the film bringing the characters together. Will it be unexpected or mind blowing? No. But it will be Star Wars, enjoyable science fantasy, and that’s why I bought a ticket.Rogue One is cool. Visually amazing and darth vader is the stand out. The tone and themes are very grown up, I think the movie was clearly made for OT fans like my dad, and we both enjoyed it. It also reminded me of the clone wars, with themes of self sacrifice and soldiers in war. Very cool.Solo was really fun. Just fun, I enjoyed it and would watch it again and again. It’s just a fun movie. I like the smaller scale, I love the performances, and the relationship between Han and chewie is handled so well, with chewie actually being a character!Mandalorian looks amazing. End of story. So all in all, I think Disney have done pretty damn well. In no means do I think they have ruin Star Wars. They have been very very respectful to it. I like all the Disney films far more than the prequels and while nothing will ever capture the original trilogy, I think they have done a really great job of expanding on it while keeping the same look and feel (something the prequels and clone wars really didn’t do)I usually judge something by the first time I view it. And every first time I’ve seen each of these movies I have really liked them. There’s no denying that on multiple viewings the sequel trilogy seems a little confused and rogue one gets a little boring. But I just think they are all very well made, enjoyable movies. I’m excited for the next 3 or 4 things coming out in the Star Wars universe and let’s face it, I will always be.Why tell you? It’s more about telling myself. So much negativity on YouTube and such about Star wars that it sometimes makes me second guess myself, like ‘am I a fan if I like this?’. But then I realised that my opinion is my opinion. And Star Wars is just a film. If I’m a fan of all things Star Wars, then I’m a fan. And if I like it it’s because it’s enjoyable, and that’s why I buy the damn tickets then that’s how I feel. Maybe this helps some of you appreciate them a bit more? Either way, keep it civil if you’re going to comment. Thanks! via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/2NWNfoN
