Rewatched TLJ yesterday, and realized something (not a hate post, don’t worry)

A lot of people have said that Adam Driver’s portrayal of Kylo Ren seems strange. In TFA, people said he was an angry, emo teen. In TLJ, people said he seemed like a bit of a crybaby. While I can see the points in these arguments, (especially like how the characters emotion is demonstrated in nearly every scene) I think that in many scenes, it works. (Ex. The “Join me... please” scene in TLJ)What I’ve noticed, especially with TLJ, is that these levels of distress and conflict are manifesting themselves in stages. Exactly like a teenager. And I think that’s... the point.I’m thinking that Ben Solo is supposed to connect to the kids and teens feeling lost, betrayed by family, alone, angry, needing love from SOMEONE, finally connecting with someone, and then having it all ripped away again. There are many teens who are trapped in their own heads, torturing themselves. They struggle daily with trying to make selfish vs right decisions, sometimes because they feel like they must make the selfish one to survive. They express massive amounts of anger and pain, mostly because they are conflicted with something. If that doesn’t remind you of Ben Solo, maybe I’m just being dramatic. But I think the character of Kylo Ren is a character representing a young man trying to find his way out of the complicated, tangled, and frightening situation he’s in. The question is... what kind of person will he be when he gets out? via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/2MSPLhg
