I just finished reading Lost Stars and part of the ending has me confused...

At the end of Lost Stars, we find Ciena captured by the Rebels turned New Republic. It is said that she is to be put on trial as a war criminal. The thing I don't get is: why?Is it considered a war crime to serve the Empire to the New Republic? How can that at all be considered fair and just? It is even mentioned that they have records for her actions at Hoth, Endor, and Jakku.I mean, we often see the Rebels put up on high to show that they are good people, but they did their share of things that would be considered war crimes, at least to Earth. Cassian kills his civilian informant, some have committed acts of terrorism, killed civilians (intentionally or not), perfidy (using enemy uniforms to trick them), even Leia committed what would be considered a war crime when she smuggled for the Rebels under the guise of a relief mission. It seems pretty hypocritical for the New Republic to say that Ciena is a war criminal specifically. Plus, it removes any context or tier of actual criminal activity. If everyone who willingly served is a war criminal, how do you differentiate that from someone like Tarkin if he was still alive? via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/31wW8uq
