Solo corrected a 38 year old continuity issue with the Millennium Falcon

Today at SIGGRAPH, Industrial Light and Magic presented a behind the scenes look on the visual effects of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Head of ILM, Rob Bredow, pointed out a small detail they included to right a glaring continuity issue that has been driving us all insane since Empire released. The Millennium Falcon's landing gear. "What's wrong with the landing gear?" I hear you ask. Well, in A New Hope the Falcon only had a 3 leg landing gear setup. 2 at the back, 1 at the front. In Empire Strikes Back they switched to a 5 leg setup. 3 in the front, 2 in the back. This was for stability reasons. In Solo, the Millennium Falcon was pre "piece of junk" as Luke calls it. This newer Falcon also has the 5 landing leg setup that it was always meant to have, that is, until 2 of the front legs are violently smashed off. In Empire you might remember a scene where Chewbacca is enacting repairs on Hoth and has the ship taken apart to which Han is none too pleased. Chewbacca, having been in the events of Solo, knows the Falcon was always meant to have the 5 landing legs and is installing new ones. We also see Chewbacca getting mad at Han because Chewy is the only one who ever seems to do any work on the ship and is only now getting time to fix the landing gear. And so, the continuity is restored. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/2L1cAdK
