Based on a quick search I did of the subreddit, it seems like this hasn't been done before, so I thought it'd be fun to do it myself.Essentially, this will be a guide, explaining where each major character from The Last Jedi is, both physically and emotionally, at the start of the film.If you don't have time or can't be bothered to watch The Force Awakens before going to see The Last Jedi, hopefully this will be a good substitute.Now, without further ado, let us begin.REY has just arrived on the planet Ahch-To. She has found Luke Skywalker at the site of what is said to be the first Jedi Temple. She has recently witnessed the murder of a man she looked up to (Han Solo) and the severe injury of a good friend (Finn), so I think we can expect her to be a little shaken. She holds out Luke's lightsaber (formerly Anakin's), an act which conveys to Luke that he is, once again, needed by the galaxy.LUKE SKYWALKER is on an island on the planet of Ahch-To. He has been there for, presumably, many years, having gone into exile after Ben Solo's betrayal and subsequent destruction of his new Jedi Order. Having been found by Rey, he must now decide whether to accept the galaxy's plea for help or not.KYLO REN's precise whereabouts are unknown, though we can make an educated guess. At the end of The Force Awakens, Supreme Leader Snoke instructed General Hux to bring Ren to him, so we can assume that Ren's whereabouts are the same as Snoke's. Kylo Ren has also just murdered his father which, contrary to his belief, did not cement the dark side in him. He is probably feeling very conflicted.SNOKE, along with Kylo Ren, is most likely on his flagship The Supremacy. He has said that he needs to complete Kylo's training, so we will almost certainly see this in The Last Jedi.FINN got hurt pretty badly at the end of The Force Awakens, taking a lightsaber up the spine. He is alive but unconscious in the care of the Resistance.LEIA ORGANA, POE DAMERON, ROSE TICO, AMILYN HOLDO, BB-8 and C-3PO are probably together in the Resistance's base. We know that their base on D'Qar was discovered by the First Order, so at the start of The Last Jedi they will probably be evacuating, most likely to Crait. Leia has just lost her husband, so she will probably be stressed over not having time to properly mourn. She will need Luke back more than ever.CHEWBACCA and R2-D2 are on Ahch-To with Rey. Chewbacca, having just lost his best friend, is distraught, though he has made a new friend in Rey.CAPTAIN PHASMA and GENERAL HUX are aboard The Finalizer. Issue 004 of Captain Phasma suggests that they are overseeing preparations for a new assault on the Resistance, though the true nature of this is unclear.DJ is probably up to some shady shenanigans on Canto Bight.So there you go.
