Brilliance in Translation: A little thing from Phantom Menace

So, in pahntom menace, when Qui Gon and Co. are having dinner at Anakin's place, and slavery comes up, Padmé points out that the Republic outlawed it, to which Shmí replies with the rather unremarkable, slightly western movei-ish line:"The Republic doesn't exist out here. We must survive on our own"However, in the Hungarian translation, she instead say:"The Republic is far away from here. So are its laws."I think this is a very awesome line. My family and I are often qouting it. I do have to admit, this line might be so cool for me due to the political situation in my country, what with all the untouchale oligarchs and the kleptocracy... But i still think it's way better than the original. For one, it's a bit more poetic, and the way it's written, it makes Shmi seem a bit smarter.Small detail but I like it. via /r/StarWars http://ift.tt/2xZTtMx
