Is the SW prequel hate largely a generational thing?

I was in 6th Grade when TPM came out. I have fond memories of the hype surrounding the movie. I saw it and liked it, as well as the other 2. ROTS I actually saw in theaters 3 times. I've seen the prequels several times since and can't seem to understand the hate for them.I recently watched a retrospective documentary on youtube about TPM. They said that kids that grew up on the prequels are grown now and are largely contributing to more appreciation for the prequels. Being young, I never had unrealistic expectations for the films which I think a lot of older people did.
