What was it like watching the prequels in theaters?

I was born in the late 90s, and by the time I started watching Star Wars, the prequel trilogy had already been completed. When I saw them for the first time, it wasn’t a secret to me that Palpatine would become the emperor, that Padme was Luke and Leia’s mother, and that Anakin would massacre the Jedi at the temple.
