Why Mon Calamari rank so high in star fighter combat.

As an amphibious race Mon Calamari learn at a young age to move underwater. Similar to how humans play fight and wrestle as children, one can assume that the Mon Calamari do a similar thing but underwater. This allows them to have a better understanding of moving in the Z axis freely, similar to space movement. Not only that but to combat, strategize and to maneuver using the Z axis.
