So, a lot of you here probably remember Needa. He's the man Vader told to track the Millennium Falcon. He lost it, he took a shuttle to Vader to personally apologize, and Vader killed him. Many people take this as another sign of Vader's evil, that even a officer that mans up and says sorry for mucking up is unjustly killed.I disagree, while this act is still evil, I can understand why Vader killed him.The thing is, losing the Millennium Falcon is a mistake yes, but one easily rectified. Its not like Ozzel who irreversibly mucked up the battle, the Millennium Falcon was just lost and is presumably still in the area. Meaning that if Needa wants to locate it, time is absolutely of the essence to quickly find it before it sneaks away or hyperspace jumps. Yet what does Needa do? At this critical time, he boards a shuttle to go grovel to Vader. You might be asking, why is the shuttle part in bold? Well, Vader has shown time and time again to only contact his officers by hologram or video call. The only subordinates he speaks to in person are those who have to find him personally for respect reasons (Krennic) or are on the same ship (Veers), otherwise he won't tell his important subordinates to make the effort. Meaning that it is very, very unlikely that Vader told him to go, Needa chose to see Vader face to face. At a time when he should be organizing emergency search patrols or scans, he goes to Vader's ship. All this means that from Vader's point of view, Needa is a man who got a critical assignment, failed, and instead of putting his all into trying to fix it and succeed immediately gave up the mission as a failure and begged for forgiveness. A more focused, competent admiral would have instead doubled his search for the Falcon, not write it off as lost after a few seconds and start planning how not to be executed.tl;dr Needa needed to step up his game. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/qxMOIWc
