I see a lot of gripes about folks saying: "Well why have we never seen this type of trooper before?" Or "How come we never saw this ship outside this one film/show?" I proffer this: Look at the US Military, whose only AoR is Earth. Look at how many times we've changed our equipment over even the past 15 years of conflict. How many times has the US Army changed their basic cammie pattern? 3 officially (Tri-colors, ACU, MultiCam), but many specialized units test different patterns all the time. We've changed the desert pattern 2 times in the Corps (Chocolate Chips and Desert MARPATS).Not one of the 4 major services has the same cammo pattern. We have three different types of MRAPs and dozens of HMMWVs (So 3-4 Walker variants aren't crazy depending on the operational theater)New gear gets tested in theater all the time. So stuff that might not ever see full production runs has been used in conflict.Look at our rifles. Most troops are issued the M4A1 currently, but we have a wide range of battle rifles (not even looking at machine guns, grenade launchers, etc) like the HK416 and the SCAR that end up in the hands of special units. The USNavy is likely to abandon the Littoral Combat Ship despite deploying a handful of them because it's falling short of it's mission goals.TL;DR: Even looking at one major military on one planet it is very normal for gear to get swapped out quickly, see limited use, and be theater specific; so with a galactic empire for the same thing to happen is not weird or illogical. Cost and effectiveness are huge drivers. via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/2r8cBVq
