Star Wars is Open for Posts

Q: Why was the sub restricted?A: See the previous sticky. We wanted to help support the voices that were seeking to bring awareness to changes that we felt would negatively impact the sub, the site, and users. We had, and still maintain, a conviction that Reddit's actions against third party apps will bring harm in this and many other communities. In hindering the mod team's ability to remove bigotry and spam on the go, as well as alienating many community members who find the official app bloated, Reddit is acting with clear disregard for anything other than maximizing profit. There hasn't been a lot going on in the Star Wars world currently; no shows, movies, etc. So minus a few news stories here and there that didn't get to hit our front page, we felt this was a good time to support the cause as there would be minimal impact to the sub compared to say if Ahsoka was currently airing.​Q: Why is it back open?A: The community clearly wanted it back open based on the comments. We didn't set a time frame, or an end goal. We didn't set out with any ultimatums or threats towards Reddit. Reddit has made some changes in the policy regarding bots and tools that mods use which may help going forward. Reddit has also announced that they'll be delivering sufficient mod tools on their official app. They've been saying this for many years, and it's been a lie most of the other times. Perhaps what they're telling us this time is true - from a certain point of view. We are curious to see what they actually deliver on. There also was a lot of media coverage regarding the site's protests and a lot of negative press for Reddit and the admins which we see as a positive.​Q: Were you threatened by admins or forced open?A: We haven't heard from the admins a single time during any of this. Apparently this sub isn't all that important to them or not on their radar. But clearly it is to you all and it is to us as well.
