Return of the Jedi was not a bad movie

ROTJ was one of my favorite sw movies as a kid. I was shocked to learn that Seth Macfarlane and many gen Ex-ers sort of hate it and think it’s far and away the worst of the series. I disagree completely. It easily holds its own with the others and is a great film on its own. Why?Jabba/ Jabbas palace. Han needed to be rescued. Sure Jabba was kind of a non sequiter, but he provided a whole new look to the “ scum and villainy” side of tattooine. Also, the fight aboard the skiff was great.Second Death Star. It only makes sense the empire would try to reconstruct and improve upon the terror inspiring weapon of the first film. It made for a great battle too.3 Billy dee Williams. Billy Dee as Lando calrissian was great, with a suave and cool matched by no one in the series. I’m surprised Lando isn’t that popular of a character given how good an actor Billy dee is.Endor. People criticize it for being “ just a forest.” Not really, it’s a forest of sequoias in California, almost 1000 year old trees. Definitely buy it as a different planet. Which leads me to its inhabitants. The Ewoks. People hate them, in my view unjustly. Sure, they never could have been conceived in any decade but the 80s. But they are pretty cute and menacing, they definitely would have eaten Han and Luke and the gang of Luke didn’t intervene.I also find it plausible they could have beaten off the stormtroopers with Rebel operative help. They know the territory and feature of their planet well and are well versed in guerrilla tactics. Lucas himself compared them to the Vietcong.Palpatine. Finally we get to see the real big bad of the series. Ian Mcdiarmid is a great actor and really brings this villainous being to lifeThe redemption arc. In this movie Luke actively redeems his father against the odds, almost making the other fighting background conflict. What do you think of ROTJ? via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/MPcp6LO
