Everyone knows about the chipmunk-voiced battle droids who act like slapstick minions, they’re hardly a threat and they’re used a lot in memes. But before the Confederacy of Independent Systems, when it was just the Trade Federation controlling their battle droids from a single computer, they lacked that level of stupidity and actually acted like a hive mind, they demonstrated more coordinated attacks and their voices even sounded more monotone and fitting for a tactical hoard, and tbh I want to know who voiced them because the VA for them is uncredited which is a damn shame. When Obi Wan and Qui Gon try to go to Coruscant, they’re waiting in suspense to see if the battle droid commander will allow them to get into their ship, there’s this clear tension between Jedi and automaton, they clearly want to avoid conflict with the battle droids. Compare that to a Clone Wars battle droid, and the jedi would probably just be like “Alright you little punk, get outta the way because ima slice you in half now” followed by the battle droid making a silly scream. They used to be more intimidating and more threatening, but that’s lost now because they were turned into comic reliefDon’t get me wrong, I do like clanker humor and it’s funny when they act dumb sometimes, but it’s a bit overdone and I think the old voices were a better balancehttps://youtu.be/O_muCUNeUQEThis is what the droid army could have been in Revenge of The Sith and the Clone Wars, notice how strong and badass they are when they aren’t constantly confused. OOM-9 has the intelligence of a tactical droid, so that should really indicate how nerfed their AI got, despite the “upgrade.” They’re a lot like ants searching for food and infesting houses, that’s a perfect balance between funny and threatening because a lone ant can just be squished but an infestation of ants is a nightmare. These battle droids are precisely that, but in The Clone Wars they just… weren’thttps://youtu.be/4S3EcC9RO2sMaybe goofy ants via /r/StarWars https://ift.tt/P68NTbt
